Proposed as “Stem Cell Society of India“
The Membership of the society is open to any person who has attained the age of majority and fulfils the terms and conditions of the society but the subject to the approval of the Governing Body of the society.
Note: If the Governing Body of the society does not approve the membership, the reason of refusal shall be communicated to the person/ applicant concerned.
(a) The membership of the Society is open to any person of repute and good conduct, who has attained the age of maturity and is either a doctor or a student pursuing the medical profession and fulfills the rules of the Society, without discrimination of religion, caste, color or creed, subject to the approval of the Governing Body of the Society.
(b) Persons or Associations, as the case may be, who desire to be enrolled as Member shall apply to the Governing Body of the Society.
(c) Application for admission to the membership of the Society shall be approved by a majority of members of the Governing Body present at the meeting.
(d) There shall be three categories of members, viz., life members, annual members and associate members.
(e) Applications for the Membership may be rejected by the Governing Body, at its sole discretion, without assigning any reasons for rejection, including, for reasons such as admission will not bring any substantial benefit to the Society or is otherwise not in the interest of the Society or for any other reason, as deemed fit.
(f) Acceptance of the applications for admissions shall be communicated to the applicant, within thirty (30) days of approval by the Governing Body.
(f) Every person shall, on becoming a member of the Society, sign the Roll of Members of the Society to be kept in a bound register.
2. TYPES OF MEMBERSHIP
There shall be three (3) categories of memberships, viz.,
(a) Life Members: Life members shall be: (a) qualified medical practioners and should be having a doctorate in the field of medicine; or (b) persons with a science background having a post graduate degree or a doctorate in any field of science. Life members shall also be entitled to stand for elections for the post of an Executive Committee.
(b) Annual Members: Annual members shall be those who are: (a) qualified medical practioners with bachelors or masters degree in any field of medicine or allied health services; or (b) persons with a science background having a graduate or a post graduate degree in any field of science.
(c) Associate Members: Associate members shall be those pursuing medicine as a profession, essentially medical students, and para medicals like physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and the like.
The qualification prescribed above for membership shall, however, not apply to the initial members setting up the society.
3. ADMISSION FEE AND SUBSCRIPTION
(a) The admission fee for Life Members shall be 15,000.00 (Rupees Fifteen Thousand) only, payable at the time of admission. The fees are subject to revision during annual meetings.
(b) The admission fee for Annual Members shall be 1,000.00 (Rupees One Thousand) only, payable at the time of admission. This fee shall be every year for continued membership. In any event, the annual subscriptions shall be paid before on or before 31st March of the relevant year for the subsequent Financial Year. A “Financial Year” shall mean a period of twelve (12) months commencing April 1 of each year. In case the annual subscription remains unpaid for a period of thirty (30) days from the due date, the Member would not be entitled to any facilities or benefits of the Society and shall be readmitted only on payment of a late fee penalty as may be solely decided by the Executive Committee.
(c) The admission fee for Associate Members shall be 500.00 (Rupees Five Hundred) only, payable at the time of admission. This fee shall be every year for continued membership. In any event, the annual subscriptions shall be paid before on or before 31st March of the relevant year for the subsequent Financial Year. In case the annual subscription remains unpaid for a period of thirty (30) days from the due date, the Member would not be entitled to any facilities or benefits of the Society and shall be readmitted only on payment of a late fee penalty as may be solely decided by the Executive Committee.
(d) Corporates, especially those who are related to stem cell research and therapy, can participate as members, the membership fees being 30,000.00 (Rupees Thirty Thousand) only per year. Two (2) corporate members can be included in the Executive Committee. The choice of the corporates to be included would be done exclusively by the Executive Committee and their decision shall be final and binding. However, the persons nominated from each corporate to represent them, has to be from the higher echelons, who has decision making power or authority in their own set up, such as Chief executive Officer, Managing Director, Director, Chairperson, President, etc.). The exact terms and conditions of the Corporate Membership shall be decided by the Executive Committee.
(e) A member whose subscription is in arrears for six (6) months shall automatically cease to be Member of the Society and shall not have any right of readmission.
(f) The membership fee for all categories of members shall be reviewed at regular intervals and decided upon by the Executive Committee.
(g) The Society shall apply to the Income-tax department for grant of exemption under Section 80G of the Income-tax Act, 1961, in respect of all kinds of contributions made to the Society.
(h) The initial subscribers to this Memorandum and the Rules and Regulations too will be required to pay the membership fees immediately on approval of the Society from the concerned regulatory authority.
4. TERMINATION OR CESSATION OF MEMBERSHIP
The Governing Body of the society shall have the powers to expel/terminate a member and/or members, from the membership of the above society, on the following grounds.
a) Happening death.
b) On written resignation.
c) He/she becomes insolvent
d) If found to be involved in any anti social activities.
e) If adjudged by any court of law to be a criminal offender.
f) If found guilty by means of anti propaganda of the aims and objects of the society.
g) If fails to pay the subscription of contribution for the three months.
h) If has not attended three consecutive meetings.
i) If regards Rules and Regulations or disobey the decision of the Governing Body.
Note: The decision of the Governing Body regarding the termination from the membership of the society shall be communicated to the member concerned.
5. RIGHTS AND PRIVILEGES OF MEMBERS
All and every member of the society:-
a. Shall be entitled to participate in meetings, cultural/educational functions and other lawful gathering, called/ arranged by the society.
b. Have right to collect the Identity card after depositing the required/ prescribed (fixed by the Governing Body of the Society from time to time).
